Craftivism

Just added this link - Craftivism blog by Betsy Greer. A US citizen, she studied at Goldsmith's College in London and quickly became known as the 'girl who knits'.  Betsy has written a book, 'Knitting for Good', that explores these themes. She represents a swathe of people who are connecting the crafts - both action and skill - with social issues.  A recent study; ‘Consuming Craft: The contemporary craft market in a changing economy” by the Crafts Council showed that Crafts are booming in the UK, and one of the reasons for that is the way that it offers an antidote to consumer orientated mass production, people can learn new skills, be agents of their own objects, customise what they own and meet others. Add the that the values of just being creative and it's a pretty potent mix.
