Tempest Glass Bead Exhibition - new venue

I'm delighted to tell you that work from my 'Strange Music, Rough Magic' series of glass beads will be showing at the TDK Glass fair in Germany, on the 7th and 8th May 2010.  From there it will go on to the Glasmuseum Immenhausen, Am Bahnhof 3, D-34376 Immenhausen, from the 4th September 2010 to the 16th January 2011.   I'm also very pleased to tell you that this work has been selected for the British Glass Biennale 2010 in Stourbridge.  The Strange Music, Rough Magic series began at the International Festival of Glass at Stourbridge in 2008.  A number of glass artists – many of whom do not usually work in the bead form – were commissioned to present a single bead exploring themes drawn from Shakespeare’s ‘Tempest’. This island world is full of contradictions.  Magic reigns and anything can happen, but it is also a prison in which the players are trapped. Drawing on images of domestic life, Victorian toys and early optical experiments, I took up the ideas of captivity and escape that echo the concerns of my own work, and aimed to fill the tiny, constrained space of the bead with a sense of everyday magic.  The resulting show, ‘Tempest’ was a festival hit, and went on in 2009 to tour Creative Glass Zurich, Studio 34 Rochester, USA at Musée-Atelier du Verre, Sars Poteries, France, as part of the exhibition ‘La Journée de la Perle de Verre’.  This immensely successful show continues to we welcomed to new venues as it travels.  Do try and get to see it if you can.  See my bead on the Tempest website
